This oral history was conducted by Elizabeth Way on April 16, 2021, interviewing Young-Joo Kwon on the subject of her career as a fashion designer. Kwon details her education in Korea and Washington, DC, studying music and how a job during grad school working for a fashion designer inspired her to change career paths. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology beginning in 1968 and subsequently worked in the New York garment district for manufacturers and designers including Scott Barrie, Tracy Mills, Norma Walters, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Elie Tahari.

This collection holds approximately 400 photographic prints, mostly black and white, depicting the store window displays of Lord & Taylor designed by John Castagna. Various photographers and photo studios are stamped on backs of photos. Most photos show ID numbers and dates. Donor Mr. Strangi stated that artist Dennis Abby was responsible for some backdrops painting in window displays.

The majority of the collection consists of published versions of the periodicals Fashion Calendar and the Fashion International from 1947-2014. The collection also includes published and draft copies of Fashion Calendar, Fashion International, Home Furnishing Calendar, Fashion Trade Calendar, and New York Fashion Council. It also includes business related materials in the form of advertising, membership and subscription information for each publication. The collection includes personal records collected by Ruth Finley, including emails, programs from fashion shows, information about awards, and images.

FIT Talks is an oral history program of the Fashion Institute of Technology/State University of New York. It documents personal accounts and experiences of people relevant to the College and to the industries that support - and are supported by - the College’s curricula. The program incorporates the most suitable technologies for the capture and provision of content and, with the guidance of an advisory board, the strategic addition of new subjects to the collection. The collection is administered by the Special Collections and College Archives, a unit of the Gladys Marcus Library.

The Oral History Project of the Fashion Industries began informally in the late 1970s, and was officially funded by a grant from the Educational Foundation for the Fashion Industries beginning in 1981. The project was guided by an industry advisory committee chaired by Mrs. William Randolph Hearst, Jr., and was largely guided by then director of the Gladys Marcus Library at FIT, John Touhey.
